Dreaming Helps When I Am Awake
Every night is a new adventure.
When a child closes their eyes, where do they go? In this first book of the series, dreaming becomes an adventure filled with new friends, visits to the future, and even encounters with dragons. The child discovers that some nighttime adventures may have a purpose, including protecting others, and begins to understand that sleeping and dreaming are important parts of being well while awake.
The story continues beyond the final page with words to repeat before sleep, including affirmations about being strong when dreams go wrong, being protected, understanding rather than hiding from dreams, and recognizing that good sleep helps with the activities of the day. Children are also invited to create their own words to repeat before sleeping.
The accompanying dream journal asks children to record what they dreamed about and what they would like to dream about next. Additional prompts encourage them to explore favorite or recurring dreams, followed by pages where they can draw what they see in their dreams.
What children explore:
π Dream adventures
β¨ Protection and safety
π The connection between dreaming and waking life
π Dream journaling
π¨ Dream drawing
