I Am In Control
When dreams seem real, I control how I feel.
In this story, a child awakens within a dream surrounded by water. At first, the experience creates fearβthe child wonders how they can possibly stand on water without drowning. But instead of allowing the fear to take over, they stop, breathe and relax. The experience changes, and the child discovers that they can influence how they feel within the dream.
The book's pre-sleep mantras reinforce the idea of control and emotional awareness, including:
βAwake and in dream, I am in control.β
and
βWhen dreams seem real, I control how I feel.β
Children are also encouraged to create their own words to repeat before sleep.
The dream journal invites children to think about times they controlled a dream, what they would like to control in a future dream, and experiences where they initially felt out of control but now understand differently. Drawing pages then allow them to illustrate their dream experiences.
What children explore:
π§ Facing fear
π§ Relaxation and breathing
β¨ Feeling empowered
π Dream awareness
π Dream reflection
π¨ Drawing dreams
β Creating personal affirmations
